METHUEN — Karen Kennedy, director of Mission and Community Partnerships for Holy Family Hospital, can’t say for sure that the hospital’s new farmers market is Methuen’s first.

Regardless, she’s doing everything in her power to make sure it’s the best.

S.A.L.S.A. health and fitness festival set for Saturday

LAWRENCE — Pemberton Park will be the site of the first S.A.L.S.A. Festival on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

S.A.L.S.A.—which stands for Supporting Active LifeStyles for All—will offer games, kite making and flying, a bike clinic and safety, BMX demos, trolley rides, volleyball, Zumba, an obstacle course, sack races, healthy snacks, door prizes, and more.

Six Mass. Nonprofits Get $122K for Urban Farming Initiatives

March 18, 2014 — Six nonprofits across Massachusetts recently were awarded $122,623 in state grants for urban farm pilot projects, one of the nation’s first state-funded urban farming initiatives aimed at helping more cities growth their own food.

The Urban Agricultural Program grants, administered by the Department of Agricultural Resources (DAR), is designed to build community partnerships, increase access to fresh, nutritious food for urban residents at risk for diet-related chronic diseases, and promote viable farming methods and local initiatives that other cities can replicate.

Green Roof Installed by ETTP Students at Manchester Street Park


We are happy to announce that the Green Roof on the shed at Manchester St. Park has been planted!

Cycle Two and Three (Cycle 3 pictured here) of the Environmental Technical Training Program (ETTP) at Groundwork Lawrence took on the task of completing the installation of the "Green Roof" using their OSHA 10 and Fall Protection Training, in addition to other skills they have acquired during the 5-week full-time program!
