"I love knowing that I am contributing--even if only in a very small way--to restoring sustainable living to our community. I am pleased to be supporting those who are dedicated to and can teach me about living sustainably and seasonally!"
Changes for the 2010 CSA Season:
More Choice!
In response to the overwhelming majority that voiced they'd like to choose more of the vegetables in their shares, in addition to offering to deliver shares pre-boxed, in 2010 we are also introducing "Choose Your Own." With "Choose Your Own" the difference will be that rather than picking up your share in a crate, you will arrive at the CSA to an array of produce spread out on tables in an arrangement similar to a market. Signs will be displayed that guide you in the selection and quantity of vegetables to choose from. Click here to check out a video to see the “Choose Your Own” style of CSA in action!
We recognize that while a majority is interested in choosing more of the vegetables in their shares, for some this is not convenient, and with that in mind we will continue to offer to pre-box shares if desired. Note that in filling out your registration form, you will automatically be signed up for "Choice Style" unless you indicate you would like your share to be boxed. Please also note that "Choose Your Own" will be available until 6:30 pm on Tuesday CSA pick-up days; after this time, CSA volunteers will pre-box shares for members that have yet to pick up their shares so that clean-up can be completed on time.
CSA to Open Mid-June
We will be starting the CSA season two weeks earlier this year. The season will last 20 weeks from mid-June through the end of October, just before the start of the winter share (see below). We will kick off the season with some of the following produce:
Arugula, lettuce, baby beets, radishes, snap peas, bok choi, cilantro, summer squashes, garlic scapes, chives, spinach and scallions.
Small Share
Due to popular demand we are offering a Small Share in the 2010 CSA season. The small share will be appropriate on average for 1-2 people, depending on your eating habits (1 vegetarian or 2 omnivores), or to supplement your grocery purchases with some great fresh, local produce. The small share will contain slightly less than half the amount of produce in the regular share (the regular share will continue to be offered and will contain the same amount of produce as last year's regular share--5-20 lbs. of produce or enough for 2 vegetarians or 4 omnivores).
Super Family Share
We are increasing the size of the Super Share this year, making it appropriate for sizeable families. The share will be roughly 30% larger than the 2009 Super Share, or enough produce for 4-8 people, depending on your eating habits (4 vegetarians or 8 ominvores). Again, the regular share will continue to be offered and will contain the same amount of produce as last year's regular share (5-20 lbs. of produce or enough for 2 vegetarians and 4 omnivores).
Winter Share
We are extending the CSA season! When the main CSA season finishes up at the end of October, you will now be able to continue enjoying Farmer Dave's produce with the Winter Share. The Winter Share will start at the beginning of November and last through the middle of December, with larger holiday shares the week of November 22nd and December 13th. You can look forward to the following in items your winter share:
Brussels sprouts, cabbage, broccoli, potatoes, carrots, beets, onions, garlic, celeriac, turnips, different winter squashes, spinach, winter greens, leeks, apples, cranberries, parsnips, and lettuce.
Fruit Share
You will notice that the price for the fruit share has increased for the 2010 CSA, but that the duration of the fruit share has not changed (12 weeks). This change is in response to the feedback we received from the survey, which noted many as wishing they could receive more in their fruit share. The increased cost will mean much more of the fruit you love each week! As always, the fruit share is seperate from the vegetable share.
"I got a sense of self-satisfaction knowing that I had contributed to the local economy. I am able to eat healthfully and also in-season using the CSA's locally grown food. Also, I got quality produce and saved time, by not having to get groceries as often."
