GWL is busy preparing for the 9th Annual Spicket River Cleanup happening this Saturday from 9am-1pm. Every year, hundreds of volunteers come together to pull out trash and help make the Spicket River beautiful. Donate some of your time this Saturday and enjoy a delicious lunch with your fellow volunteers after the event at Everett Mills. For more information on this year's cleanup, click here!
Chances are you've probably heard the saying "an apple a day keeps the doctor away." These days in Lawrence, this old saying is alive and well...and taking on new meaning. With rates of obesity, Type II diabetes, and heart disease skyrocketing amongst Lawrence's poorest residents, physicians at Greater Lawrence Family Health Center are actually handing over scripts that their patients can fill for fresh fruits and vegetables--and for free--at local farmers markets like the three that Groundwork Lawrence currently manages throughout Lawrence.
In case you missed it, Rose, previously our Program Manager, has been promoted to the position of Deputy Director of Groundwork Lawrence! We would like to congratulate her on this accomplishment and also on being awarded a fellowship to the TogetherGreen Conservation Leadership Program.
Come to the Saturday Farmers Market, at the corner of Park and Lawrence Sts., this Saturday (August 14th) and the next two Saturdays (until August 28th) to enjoy our free concert series. There will be a performance from 12-1 pm on these three Saturdays.
August 14th: Ryan Thomson, fiddler and son
August 21st: Los Sugar Kings, Latin, salsa, jam band
August 28th: Veronica Robles, mariachi music

Groundwork Lawrence had a lot of fun hosting the National Night Out festivities at Dr. Nina Scarito Park on August 3rd. The turnout was great and there were many activities to keep people entertained, such as relay races, a basketball tournament, and face painting. Check out the photos here!
The Greater Lawrence Boating Community Program would like you and your family to join them for some food and fun in the sun at their end of the season celebration. On August 21st they will hold the 13th annual Tony Lahoud Regatta and then conclude the day with Lobsterfest 2010. So please, if you like the water and you like to eat, join them as they finish the season with a bang.
